USE THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS TO OPEN THE FILES I HAVE SUPPLIED ON THE PC FORMATTED 3.5 INCH DISC(S) OR CD.
Boot your PC (switch on) and then open Word. The next task is to insert the floppy disc into the drive (most likely drive 'A') or place the CD into the drive (most likely drive 'D'). Click on 'File' (top left hand corner) and then click on 'Open' and following screen should appear. From the 'Look in:' box select either the floppy or CD drive (depending on what media I have sent your files on) and then your folders or files will appear on the screen, if they do not make sure the 'Files of type:' box is set to 'All Files'.
(If your files are in folders then you will first need to open one of these, to view your files.)

The above is only an example screen and your files will, of course, have different files.
The file names should be the same as they were on your PCW and therefore you
will know which one you want to view first. Just double click on the file to open it.
As the Locoscript files have been converted to Rich Text Format
they will probably require little or no editing. Now save your file(s) as Word
Document file(s) to your Hard Drive or to another Floppy Disc, do not edit the
disc I supplied because, if you corrupt or damage it, you will have to pay to have the job done again.
APPLE MAC'S.
Most modern Mac's come with software to read PC formatted discs, so use this to read the discs I supply, and yes it works fine. I offer a separate help sheet relating to opening PC files on an Apple Macintosh.
LOTUS OFFICE SOFTWARE.
If you are using Lotus Word Pro then the operation is almost the same as for Microsoft Word.
MICROSOFT WORDPAD.
Boot your machine (switch it on) and then open 'Wordpad' next insert the disc into the drive, click 'File' and then click 'Open' and the box below will appear.

Follow the two instructions above and then highlight (select) the file you wish to view from those offered and click 'Open', or you can just double click the file.
READING DATA SUPPLIED ON CD OR IN ZIP FILES.
If you reqested that your converted PCW data be supplied on CD
or as Zip files then the procedure is almost the same as for a floppy disc.
For a CD you will need
to ensure that the ' Look in: ' box contains details of the location
of your CD drive ( D: or perhaps E:) and then follow the instructions for reading files on a
floppy disc.
With Zip files you will, of course, first need to unzip them to a folded on your hard drive or on to a floppy disc. Then you will need to ensure that the ' Look in: ' box contains the location of these unzipped files, from then on follow the instructions for reading files on a floppy disc.
HOW TO SAVE THE SUPPLIED FILES TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.
It would seem that some of you struggle with regards to saving the converted files that I have supply on floppy disc or CD to your Hard drive, perhaps the following few words will help with this task. I have used the Microsoft Word 2000 programme to illustrate how to save your files to your hard drive but should you not be using this version of Word or using a non-Microsoft programme you will still find the process very similar.
To save the Rich Text Format files I have supplied on the floppy disc or CD to your Hard Drive as Word Documents, open as detailed previously then go to 'File' click on it and from the drop down menu click on 'Save As:', then from the large box (illustrated below) that appears on the screen ensure that the 'Save in:' box indicates 'My Documents' (for this example we are saving to 'My Documents' but, of course, you can save to anywhere you wish) and the 'Save as type:' box indicates 'Word Document' also at this time you can take the opportunity to change the name of your file, if you so wish, in the 'File name' box. Now click the button marked 'Save' --- THAT IS IT --- you will now have a Word Document that can be edited, printed or saved to a floppy or CD to send to your Publisher or just to a friend.
