The SCA MiniRam Plus Power Pack is identical to the Locomotive version and both, in fact, were produced by SCA.
Anyone using the Parallel Port on this Power Pack, should fix in someway, the printer cable to the PCW (try a cable tie) as it is so easy to pull on the cable and unplug the Power Pack whilst the machine is switched on, thereby blowing the memory chips in the machine or in the Power Pack or both.
I receive so many tales of misadventure with these Power Packs, with or without,
a printer cable fitted. The design is so poor I am surprised that they were ever
marketed. Sadly these 512K Memory upgrades are the only ones now commonly available
for the PcW9256 or PcW10, so owners of these machines wishing to upgrade there
memory (or on the PcW9256 use an alternative printer), have little option.
As they stick straight out the back of the machine and are not fixed in anyway, they are an obvious target for the odd knock and you would be wise to ponder on a way to protect them, perhaps the good old cable tie could be used as a security measure.
If anybody has thought up a good idea for fixing these Power Packs (and no - Superglue is not on) e-mail me the details to share with others.
