THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MARK 1 AND MARK 11 PCW8256.

When ordering parts or seeking information for your PCW8256 you could need to know which version of the machine you have, as replacement Printed Circuit Boards are different. Remove the rear casing and look at the Power Board (the Board that lays flat along the bottom of the machine) and locate a bunch of wires (coloured Yellow/Orange/Red/Black plus probably Brown) rising from this board and bending over the top of the CPU/Memory Board (the Board that rises vertically from the base of the machine). Now look at where these wires terminate and inspect the plug on the end of the wires, if it has four connections then your machine is the Mark One version, if it has five connections then your machine is the Mark two version.

Generally speaking the Mark one version of the PCW8256 was released very early in it's history and so far no Mark one versions of the PCW8512 have been encountered (very probably all were Mark two models). Should you be unable to find a replacement panel for your Mark one model then you will need to replace both panels with Mark two versions. All other parts are the same for both the Mark one and Mark two models.
