It is a very simple job to add a second-hand (normally found without connecting leads) FD1 or a DDI-1 external drive to any of the following:- Amstrad CPC644, CPC6128 or the Spectrum +3 (sorry PCW owners no good for your machines). All that you need to buy is a disc drive lead used for connecting disc drives internally in a PC (they are very cheap!) but do make sure this lead has an 5.25 inch disc drive Edge Connector on it (there should be two) and it matters not if it lacks a locating key as it will work fine without one. Just plug it into your machine, you might have to remove the lugs from the outside of 34 pin IDC plug that goes into the external drive first, but otherwise there is nothing else to do. If it does not work first time turn the external drive's 34 pin IDC plug over and try again. Do remember to switch on the external drive prior to switching on your machine.
