If you are thinking of adding a 3.5 inch disc drive to your machine, be it a CPC, +3 or PCW (if owners of the PCW do not wish to use the available internal supply) then you will need a 5 volt regulated power supply for best results and it will also stop drive damage from fluctuating voltages. The above diagram shows you how to make one. All you need to buy is a L7805CV (price around 50 pence) or an equivalent voltage regulator, a cheap 12-15 volt DC power supply and if you do not already have kicking around and a plug and socket to make your disc drive detachable from the power supply. Mount the voltage regulator on a metal area in the disc drive case using it's fixing bracket, cut a hole in the casing to take the socket and fix it (do remember to remove all metal filings), now wire up as per the diagram and job done.
